A yearly service is about three things: safety, reliability and cost. On a gas boiler, our Gas Safe registered engineers check for carbon monoxide risks, test the burner and combustion, and make sure every safety device is working as it should. On an oil-fired system, our OFTEC registered engineers clean and test the boiler, nozzle and filters, and check the flue. Either way, small problems get caught while they are still small and cheap to fix.
There is a comfort benefit too. A boiler that is serviced runs more efficiently, which means it uses less fuel to heat your home — something you notice quickly when oil and gas prices are high. Most manufacturers also require an annual service to keep the warranty valid, so skipping it can cost you far more if something major goes wrong later.
